Twitter Suspends Anonymous’s Most Popular Account, @YourAnonNews (Update: It’s Back)

Twitter has suspended one of the Anonymous’s most followed accounts, @YourAnonNews, which boasted almost 800,000 followers prior to its suspension. Some members of the hacktivist collective believe that the account was suspended for its work in helping to organize an operation meant to keep the Westboro Baptist Church from protesting at the funerals of Sandy Hook victims. Anonymous has been hitting the Westboro Baptist Church hard after the hate group announced it would picket funerals in Newtown. The hacker collective has released private information about the church’s most influential members, hacked into its spokesperson’s Twitter account and taken down 19 of its registered domains. Twitter Account of Westboro Baptist Church Spokesperson Hacked; Teen Hacker Cosmo the God Claims Responsibility

Anonymous announced its intention to “destroy” Westboro Baptist Church this weekend following news that the group would be picketing the funerals of children who died in Friday’s horrific school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Now, infamous 15-year-old hacker Cosmo the God of the Underground Nazi Hacktivist Group (UGNazi) appears to have joined the fray. The Twitter account of much-reviled Westboro spokesperson Shirley Phelps-Roper has been hacked, and Cosmo is claiming responsibility. Anonymous Attacks Westboro Baptist Church Over Plans to Picket Sandy Hook Funerals

The Westboro Baptist Church, widely reviled for its homophobic beliefs and protests of veteran funerals, announced on Saturday that it would picket at Sandy Hook Elementary School following the tragic shooting there Friday that took the lives of 27 people. Members of Anonymous began an operation against the Church to discourage them from protesting at the school and compounding the misery already experienced by Newtown residents. Read More
