The only detrimental effect of your teen’s nefarious porn habit is the crapload of malware stewing on the family computer, and not, say, harmful mental defects. Some hippy-dippy Dutch researchers claim that young people indulging in skin flicks is not negatively influencing their sexual behavior.

Nearly 4,600 Netherlanders aged 15 to 25 were quizzed online about their porno viewing habits and other various intimate questions about their sex lives, such as if they participated in "adventurous sex" activities like something called a threesome.

Researchers found that 88 percent of young men, while 45 percent of girls, watched porn within the last year. Guys liked videos on the rough side, while the ladies indulged in soft-core material. However, both sexes preferred consuming the porn online and not via DVDs or television since that's such a pain.

Gert Martin Hald, the lead researcher, also discovered this:

But while the researchers found there was a statistically significant relationship between the subjects’ pornography use and their sexual behaviour, that link turned out to be a modest one. The subjects’ own personal dispositions, particularly whether they were sexual sensation seeking, were likely to be a greater influence, Hald says.

The kids will be all right.

Look, if you're gonna watch porn in class, at least be discreet about it. That may seem like obvious advice, but some people apparently need a little reminder.

A visiting professor at Wageningen University in the Netherlands was caught logging onto PornHub in a campus classroom. The university didn't have to search his laptop to discover he was watching dirty material: it was actually pretty obvious, because he forgot to unhook his laptop from the projector. On the projector? A really close up video of some naked ladyparts.

Worse, the class was being taped for online viewing, which means his indiscretion was forever recorded for everyone to see. A Redditor posted a screenshot to r/WTF (it's pretty NSFW), and a Dutch news source confirmed the story. He's not welcome back to the university, for obvious reasons.

Hey, free advertising for PornHub, we suppose.

Of course some enterprising Redditor figured out what (VERY NSFW) video the prof was watching. It's called "TIED AMATEUR GIRLFRIEND HOMEMADE BLOWJOB WITH FACIAL CUMSHOT," in case you were wondering. It's almost like the creator just typed every porn tag he could think of into the title, but whatever works.

A Dutch girl posted an invitation to her 16th birthday party on Facebook. She apparently forgot to set it to private--friends and family only.

Somehow her invitation went viral in a distastrous way. Thirty-thousand people showed up, rioted and shut down Haren, a small town over 100 miles from Amsterdam. CBS reports that authorities in Haren knew something was coming, and the city thought it was prepared:

The crowds were not entirely unexpected. After the Facebook invite went viral, "Project X Haren" website and spoof videos announced parties and after-parties. A giant banner was unfurled on the side of a building. Thirty thousand revelers signed up that they planned to attend. One company planned to offer live streaming of the event.

The city prepared by removing street signs, closing off streets and banning alcohol at the train station.

Project X was a comedy about a high school party that spirals out of control. It premiered in the U.S. in March, 2012. Film critics hated the movie, using words like "loathsome" to describe it, but it still netted just over $100 million at the box office.

Project X Haren, before the riots, spawned all the usual viral digital polyps and pustules, including a Twitter account and its own website.

The most recent tweet from the Twitter account is in Dutch:

It translates to a pretty predictable sentiment: "RT if you're with Project X Haren and not yet drunk enough."

The unfortunate teen girl, who will probably never neglect her Facebook privacy settings again if she remains on the social networking site at all, didn't even get to participate in all the fun: CBS reported that she and her family spent her sweet 16 at a secret location.

If adulation for Brooklyn's own Bre Pettis from sources like Time magazine and Stephen Colbert is any indication, 3D printing has found its way into the cultural ether. Who doesn't like the idea of a machine that spits out a product based on your digital specifications? It's even saving the poor homeless hermit crabs, didja hear?

Well, the personalized manufacturing revolution is not lost on VCs.

Shapeways, the company Betabeat called a contender for the next Etsy, just raised an impressive $5.1 million from Union Square Ventures and Index Ventures—the same VC firms that invested $5 million in Shapeways's series A round last September. Unlike Maker Bot, which creates open source 3D printers, Shapeways focuses on printing out your designs and setting up (an Etsy-like) marketplace for designers to sell their goods.

In addition to the $5.1 million, the startup, which is headquartered near Madison Park, also got a loan commitment of $1.2 million from NYC Investment Fund.

But the really big news, at least for New York City, is that the company plans on opening up local printing facilities, reports TechCrunch.

Currently, Shapeways production office is located in the Netherlands (the Dutch startup moved to New York after an investment from USV). Heretofore, the company printed orders over there or through third-parties contractors. With a local facility, turnaround will be faster and prices lower. "The company hasn’t specified exactly what kind of savings to expect just yet, but I’m told they will be substantial," says TechCrunch's Jason Kincaid.
