Recording artist Will.i.am, as you may know, is something of a self-styled technologist. Besides holding down a sweet gig as Intel's director of "creative innovation," he pops up in pro-coding propaganda and once featured a Makerbot in one of his videos, because why not. Now he's further demonstrating his devotion to technology in the title of his latest track: "#thatpower," released today. 

Justin Bieber guests on the song, contributing such lyrical gems as "I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive" and "I can fly, I can fly, I can fly."

In case you're curious about the creative process that generates this sort of magic, MTV got the goods:

He recalled, "So actually we went shopping first and we were like 'hey, let's just have a chilled day' and we went shopping for shoes, then after that we went to the studio, watched the BRITs [last month], recorded that and then trucked off to see Justin Timberlake perform. So that was a pretty full day."

It's the latest single from Mr. .am's upcoming solo album, #willpower. Perhaps he's taking some inspiration from Ben Parr's #DominateFund?

Jared Leto, seminal '90s crush who enjoys rubbing elbows with the international tech elite, has an urgent request for his Twitter followers. The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman is shooting a new music video, and he desperately needs "albinos" for it.

Apparently Mr. Leto never read up on Albinism etiquette, or else he would've known that calling someone an "Albino" is generally considered rather unfriendly.

Don't worry if you don't meet that requirement, though. If you still want to be in a music video created by a person whose most lasting claim to fame is playing a stupid hottie in a short-lived MTV series, Mr. Leto is also searching for "raver kids in LA with light tricks or who can dance."

Catfish, we'd argue, is actually one of the best shows on TV right now. It's not as highbrow as Homeland and it's probably largely staged, but MTV's attempt to turn the award-winning documentary into a reality TV show series has never once disappointed us in the OMGWTF department.

The show, which arranges for people with longtime Internet relationships to finally meet face to face, inevitably revealing the complex nest of lies they've told each other, is entertainment in the purest sense: Viewers can't help but watch with a sense of horror and fascination as people humiliate themselves--and then are redeemed!--right on the screen.

But what makes Catfish most compelling is that almost everyone in our day and age has entertained a relationship with someone they've met online, whether romantic or otherwise. Catfish allows for a sense of "OMG that could happen to me," which is equal parts horrifying and exciting. And now, those of you with weird Internet friends can apply to be on season two of the MTV show.

MTV tweeted a link to a WuFoo form where users can apply to appear on the show. "This is legit, ppl," the network promises. The form asks some important questions like "Have you ever SEEN the person on videochat?" (we're guessing you'd have to check "No" on that one in order to be considered) and "Do you have a secret or something to confess to your online partner?"

This is your chance to come clean, you guys. Wonder if Manti Te'o will apply (heh heh).

Hunter Moore, the web's vilest revenge porn entrepreneur, announced on Twitter early this morning that a television show he has been working on has been picked up. Mr. Moore is notorious for running the revenge porn hub Is Anyone Up, where scorned people submit racy pictures of their exes without their permission. The site was shut down last year, but Mr. Moore has been planning to launch another site, HunterMoore.TV, for the last few months.

There have been murmurs about a Hunter Moore TV show for some time. Back in April, Mr. Moore told the BBC that he was working on a TV show with a "major U.S. network." Now, according to Mr. Moore, the show has officially been picked up, though he declined to give further details to Betabeat by email.

It's unclear which network has picked up the show, although postings for several events Mr. Moore has hosted over the past year point to MTV. "MTV WILL BE HERE TOO [sic] SHOOT HUNTER MOORE's new TV SHOW RIGHT HERE," reads an event listing in Atlanta from June 2012. Another event posting says that the tour Mr. Moore did this summer, called the IAU Forever Naked Tour, marked the beginning of the show's filming.

"My show got picked up todayyyy," Mr. Moore wrote in a note on Instagram. "My world takeover is beginning."

If true, the move is likely to anger victims' rights activists, lawmakers and hackers who have been fighting to stop Mr. Moore and his revenge porn empire.

As with all things Mr. Moore says, it's probably best to take this with a grain of salt. We've reached out to MTV to confirm if the show will run on that network, and will update when we hear back.

Update: A rep for MTV said that there's "not anything at MTV" involving Hunter Moore, though it's worth noting the network does tend to keep mum.

Calling all catfish.

"Has someone fallen for your online alter-ego?" MTV is casting for a reality show in the vein of the possibly fake hit documentary Catfish, in which a young filmmaker falls in love with his dream girl, Megan, on Facebook, only to find he was talking to the woman Megan had said was her mother. MTV is producing the show with the producers of Catfish, including the duped Nev Schulman, and RelativityREAL.

After the movie, Mr. Schulman said he got loads of emails from people who were in his situation and the situation of his lying, fake Internet girlfriend, a middle-aged woman who may have multiple personalities. It starts with using an OKCupid photo from a few years ago, when you were a bit skinnier. Then you started using a picture of Shannyn Sossamon with an Instagram filter. It happens!

"If you’re in a relationship with someone that exists online, and you want to meet then, but need help because you are keeping a secret from them , Catfish is looking for you," says the casting call. "Whether it be Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace, the show is looking to bring people together and meet face to face for the first time."

"If you're currently in an online relationship and for whatever reason have created an online alter-ego and developed a relationship with someone using that identity, I want to hear your story and I want to help you tell it," Mr. Schulman says in a video casting call. Same goes for your friends.

Not longhand for 'Beauty Blogger' but still somehow an apropos graphic no less.

Do you write about beauty products? Do you write about them...on The Internet? Do you do it...in a blog? Well, then, like Occupy Wall Street kids and club kids and the Furries before them, we gather that Beauty Bloggers are next on the list. And how can we tell?

Because this MTV development exec is casting on Twitter, but of course:

Just remember, the Blogger Reality Show has been attempted and failed enough times over the last six years to the point where any development exec with enough brain cells to render them capable of breathing in and out of their nose is totally inexcusable for even proposing it. So now, one supposes, we're seeing the next trend in Blogger Reality Show casting: the specialized blogger.

The point, here, is that they should not make television shows about bloggers unless they are wildly invigorated with the help of uninterrupted flights of fancy and fiction, because otherwise those shows would be boring, because bloggers lives are boring. But hey, it's MTV's money. And if they're smart enough to bring Beavis & Butthead back, maybe it'll work.

He totally "gets" it.

Today is MTV's 30th birthday, so Betabeat decided to take a look back at how this revolutionary broadcast network covered the innovation, the internet, that would help to kill music television, much as video killed the radio star.

The year was 1995 and a whopping 10 million people regularly used the internet. "What's attracted many of them is the World Wide Web, with its proliferation of special interest truck stops called websites, and the arrival of networked browser programs that make the whole thing, if not idiot proof, at least user friendly."

There are so many great moments in this video it's hard to know where to start:

• Billy Corgan is pissed MJ was lip-synching at the MTV awards, but MJ doesn't care cause he is to busy doing a "simulchat" chats with his fans
• Kurt Loder, 'nuff said.
• David Bennahum, Cyber Journalist, "Of course there's a lot of sex online, welcome to the human race."
• Newt Gingrich stands up for free speech and internet porn.
• David Bowie on jacking in to the net, "I did it one time, a couple of years ago, but I got so tired of the rubbish that I dropped out again."
• Coolio puts it best, "If you ain't on the information superhighway baby, where is you?"

Today Viacom announced that MTV Networks will launching a new arm, 345 Games, to produce titles based on popular television shows like Ugly Americans and Deadliest Warrior.

Hopefully someone found a little corporate synergy in this whole switcheroo.
