According to the company website, patients download the app, then authorize their doctors to share limited medical data to their phones. When two users touch devices, they exchange information via near field communication technology, letting potential partners know the results of tests for chlamydia, HIV/AIDS, bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhea, herpes, hepatitis, pubic lice and a host of other STDs.

The Daily News thinks it's an unromantic, but potentially practical thing for teens. We think the idea of tech-forward, responsible young people bumping cell phones is kind of cute.

It may go without saying, but the company points out that MedXSafe, as the app is called, is not a substitute for condoms.

Happy New Year's, and practice safe sex.
