You may remember Amrit Richmond from when she won the web's heart with the instant viral hit Nerd Valentine. Or perhaps you're familiar with The Internet Wishlist, another project of hers, or maybe through her work at GOOD or TechStars, or through her creative consultancy Magenta Labs. Or maybe you're just meeting her now, as she launches Beaker Magazine, a web-based business and culture site for "the idea generation." It's motivational service journalism for entrepreneurs presented in a pretty, minimal format.

Ms. Richmond started building Beaker back in November. The site launched last week with stories like "How to Pitch Irrational Investors," written by Penny Black's Justin Wohlstadter, and "What Startups and Restaurants Have in Common." Beaker will feature stories about early-stage operations, startup culture and tech trends from around the world, she told Betabeat, as a companion publication for founders as they go from an idea to a startup.

We already know there is a market for this. Such uplifting stories are usually found on the blogs of VCs or entrepreneurs or, occasionally, buried in the pages of TechCrunch and Mashable. (Trending on Hacker News today: "Peak Age for Entrepreneurship: who cares," written by a San Francisco entrepreneur and "How Not To Sell Software In 2012," written by Simple's Alex Payne.) And Beaker already has advertisers.

"Beaker is a business and culture magazine for the idea generation. The goal of Beaker is to inspire and equip entrepreneurs, technologists and executives to act on their ideas while navigating through the stages of idea to product, product to market and the first few years of a startup," Ms. Richmond wrote in an email to Betabeat.

Beaker was kind of a natural next step after the Internet Wishlist, a list of ideas for web and mobile apps. Beaker will be a resource in "making ideas happen," she said. "Beaker will publish articles about early stage operations, startup culture and emerging technology trends. The content will be mostly relevant to small technology companies, but I hope that agencies and corporations that develop new products will read it as well," she said.

Beaker is based in New York but is not geographically limited, and Ms. Richmond is looking for contributors.

From the Creator of Nerd Valentine, an Internet Wishlist

The project received 425,000+ page views from 40,000+ unique nerds around the world in the few weeks it ran.

Richmond put her other projects on the back burner while dealing with the flood of interest in that site. But didn't take long to launch her next project, The Internet Wishlist, which has been burning up Twitter and Facebook since going live this morning.

"In a world of me-too startups, I hope this new project inspires entrepreneurs, developers and designers to innovate and build the products and features that people want," Richmond told The Observer in an email.

Incubating ideas is what the startup scene is all about, and Richmond's approach is refreshingly open-ended. She hopes it will become "a collection of ideas for apps and websites ranging from web to mobile, realistic to imaginary, and helpful to humorous."

For right now the site just needs to get a critical mass of attention and activity, but it would be cool if Richmond built out verticals for different kinds of ideas and a way to for users to vote up promising submissions. The top performers might also be featured on their own page. Think of it as an incubator for potential Kickstarter projects.

Some interesting suggestions from this morning.

An app that can group similar tweets so I don’t have to read the same story from 50 different sources.

An app for finding babysitters. Location and subscription based service of vetted and available sitters.

A Shazam, but for people's faces.
