Girls Gone Wild, the long running reality TV-style XXX franchise whose creator Joe Francis cajoled college women to strip on camera, has filed for bankruptcy. This is the part where you cheer.

Like MTV's Undressed, GGW was many a millennial's first introduction to porn, with its late-night infomercials comprised of screaming women pouring alcohol all over themselves, boobs obscured by a "CENSORED" logo. It long seemed a sketchy enterprise with a dubious attitude towards consent. In 2008, four women sued Mr. Francis for allegedly filming them while they were underage, but a jury acquitted him.

Mr. Francis founded the Girls Gone Wild franchise in 1997 and quickly racked up the millions before it was eclipsed almost entirely by Internet porn. Who wants to pay money for VHS tapes when you can get better amateur porn for free on the web?

The Wall Street Journal reports that Francis, who has had numerous run-ins with the law for slander and tax evasion, is filing for bankruptcy in order to avoid paying out a $2 million gambling debt to Steve Wynn. Once an asshat, always an asshat.

Bow chica wow wow?

A spot of news you can use from TMZ, if you think pornography obsessed with perpetuating steretypes is copacetic: "Rednecks" and/or "hillbillies" are reportedly the toast of the Internet adult content business. Movies with titles like  "Real White Trash" and "Ozark Sex Fiend" are booming. Or, as TMZ puts it: "Redneck porn -- no teeth? No problem."

Because rural poverty is hilarious.

Says the gossip site:

TMZ spoke with a rep for GameLink.com, who tells us the company has seen a 250% increase in Southern, white-trashy porn titles since 2010 ... when the redneck reality shows began to take off.

The phrase “Southern, white-trashy” is the best indicator you will ever see of why people living in red states are so distrustful of the “coastal elites” and frankly don’t give a good goddamn about what fancy movie people in Los Angeles think about their doings. Trust us, we grew up about 30 minutes from Honey Boo Boo.

TMZ also makes unironic reference to "bumpkins."

Hey, if you're going to toss around these kinds of terms, at least use them properly: The terms "redneck" and "hillbilly" aren't actually interchangeable. Redneck is a more generic (derogatory!) term, but typically refers to lowland farmers. The idea is you get the red neck from bending over doing manual labor. Hillbillies live in the hills, dummies.
