Oh the Times Oh the Mores
Just the other day, a trip to a Fancy Feast-inspired fashion show had us speculating about why there aren’t more Internet cat endorsements of pet food brands. Not a full week later comes the news from Friskies: Cranky, overworked meme Grumpy Cat has signed an endorsement deal, making her the official, uh, “spokescat” for the brand.
BRB, giving my cat a lecture about how he needs to get a damn job.
YOLO FOMO 'n all that jazz
Are you still pissed at Lena Dunham’s success? Well, here’s a new target for your ire: GrumpyCat, who has reportedly landed a “major motion-picture deal.”
And yet you can’t even get your college roommate’s producer uncle to read the screenplay you spent three years writing on a vintage typewriter in a Bushwick garret.

This is a guest post from Gary Sharma (aka “The Guy with the Red Tie”), founder and CEO of GarysGuide and proud owner of a whole bunch of black suits, white shirts and, at last count, over 40 red ties. You can reach him at gary [at] garysguide.com.
This was my sophomore outing at SXSW (‘Spring Break for Nerds!’) and it was every bit as epic and intense as the first one. Five days of non-stop boozing ‘n schmoozing ‘n pool partying ‘n BBQing ‘n celeb meeting ‘n concerts with little-to-no sleep can take its toll. I feel like a HERD of elephants ran over me! Now that I’ve put that mental picture in your head, let’s dive in.
My 2013 SXSW actually began right here at La Guardia airport, where I ran into bunch of local tech peeps en route to Austin, including Newscred CEO Shafqat Islam. There was a storm coming, but luckily we got out before it hit. In fact, my flight left half an hour EARLY, if you can believe that, so thank you, United. (Of course, the return flight was delayed by an hour, so there went all the hard-earned goodwill. Oh well.)
It’s virtually impossible to stand out at SXSW, hence elaborate/obnoxious marketing stunts. You could mail out a bunch of sweet potatoes, but it’s probably more expedient to just hire a celebrity.
Which explains why Internet sensation and blogger spirit animal Grumpy Cat is currently in Austin, Texas.
Good news if you forgot a few holiday gifts! CNET has stumbled onto a treasure trove, in the form of sequin-encrusted, geek-themed pasties currently being sold on–where else?–Etsy. Your options include Apple logos, Grumpy Cat faces, Star Trek ensignia (also available in pink), Nyan Cats.
Sizing seems fairly standard, though you must chose between “average,” “extra pointy,” and “butt pasties.”
