Yesterday we told you about how the nebulous (or is it cumulus?) cloud computing sector is bringing 60,000 new jobs to New York City, according to one study. Between its nominal shoutout to the neighborhood above the East Village, and its signature service Booker, which started out as SpaBooker, GramercyOne truly reps its hometown. The cloud-based startup recently announced a $15 million funding round led by Steve Case's Revolution Ventures and is hiring for a dozen positions right now, with plans to add another dozen before the end of the year.

This gives us an opportunity to examine exactly what a cloud-based job looks like. GramercyOne makes Booker, a tool for merchants that is used for booking appointments, hotel rooms, whatever, and counts multi-national enterprises like Hilton Worldwide as users as well as boutique spas, fitness centers, salons, medical practices, and other local service businesses.

According to the company, the software is used by more than 5,800 businesses worldwide and processes more than 1,000,000 transactions per month, averaging more than $2 million a day.

But unlike the Wolke 7 Cloud 9, a spa concept that is an "ode to cloud computing of sorts," GramercyOne seems pretty well-rooted. The company just hired three vice president level executives to head up customer experience, business development and marketing. “We are now well-positioned to take cloud innovation to the next level and enable more businesses to access new marketing channels, increase sales, and realize their full potential,” CEO Josh McCarter said in a statement.

No need to panic if you forgot to major in condensation, for these "cloud jobs" are strikingly similar to Earth jobs. GramercyOne is looking for an accounting assistant with a "can-do attitude," for example. This week GramercyOne announced a move to a 16,000 square foot space in Lower Manhattan, and a rebranding as LowerManhattanOne. Nope, that last part was a joke. But you forgive us.

SKILLSHARE EVERYWHERE. Skillshare had two big announcements yesterday: 1) the democratized education platform is available in "every major city" in the U.S. now, and 2) CEO Mike Karnjanaprakhorn has been named one of 12 TED fellows in 2012.

ADD TO NESTIO. Nestio.com, a real estate listings manager, a week ago launched support for nationwide listings  and announced a partnership with eBay to include "add to Nestio" buttons on every listing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Wanderfly is a year old and has "inspired 4 million trips with users from 217 countries, won a Webby nomination, Top 10 Startup by Time Inc. & Top 100 Brilliant Companies by Entrepreneur, and launched our recommendation technology on 1000 NYTimes.com pages." IMMACULATE LAUNCH. "Over the last two and a half years, a community of like minded individuals in good taste has formed around Immaculate Infatuation. MONIES. "OpenSky.com, the shopping destination that allows members to design their ideal shopping experience curated by some of the world’s most interesting people, today announced it has secured $30 million financing from new and current investors.  New investor Providence Equity Partners led the financing, which included participation from existing investors Highland Capital Partners, Canaan Partners and The Raine Group."

TECHIES FOR CHARITY. A formal group of NYC technology and advertising executives will run the New York City Marathon on November 6 and raise money for Camp Interactive, "a 10-year-old non-profit that exposes inner-city kids to both technology and the outdoors that is very active here in NYC." The Team InterActive NYC Marathon team consists of: Matt Siegel, COO and Co-Founder of IndabaMusic; Toby Daniels, CEO of Crowdcentric; Peter Miron, CTO of Knewton; Michelle DeForest, Director of Marketing and Strategy at DOTGO; David Pashman, Legal Team Leader at Meetup; James Cooper, Chief Creative Innovation Officer at JWT and more.
