There's Google Street View for mountains and museums, but one thing Google still hasn't managed to neatly chronicle is the inner workings of your digestive system. The company may not be getting into the medical business any time soon, but a new colonoscopy tool from a Canadian university was actually inspired by Google Street View. Shall we call it... Google Street Poo? (Ugh sorry.)

The Star reports that a new scope developed at McMaster University allows doctors to get a more accurate view of the colon and potentially detect cancer at an earlier stage. "Unlike conventional colonoscopy, which only looks straight ahead, this new method can be likened to Google Street View, giving us a panoramic view of the colon and helping us identify the exact locations of suspicious growths or lesions," one doctor told The Star.

Luckily, the pictures of your colon will not be displayed in a searchable map. Who says privacy is dead?

When not capturing guns being pointed at it or going on death-defying treks of the Grand Canyon, the Google street view team occasionally snaps things that are slightly sexier. On a foray into a French extreme sports store called Krakatoa, for example, they caught a couple with their pants down--literally.

The store, located in the town of Briançon in southeastern France, looks like your average Pac Sun. And really, who among us that was once 14 in the sterile suburbs hasn't wanted to make out in a Pac Sun dressing room?

The street view cameras caught the lovebirds behind a dressing room curtain in the middle of the store, with their loudly-patterned underwear around their ankles. The photo seems staged, since the couple's pants are nowhere to be found and it's kind of difficult to ignore a big street view camera in the middle of a store. Though we do suppose skateboards really turn some people on.

Andrea Dove, who lives outside Houston, Texas, was using Google Maps to get directions to a relative's house when she made an interesting discovery on Street View: something that resembles a fading, pinkish UFO straight out of cartoon sci-fi.

KLTV-TV sent a reporter after the story, who went full man-on-the-street in tracking the alien image:

I looked up a dozen different cities and didn't find any similar anomalies. That must make Jacksonville special.

"Do you see anything?" I asked a couple residents.

"Not yet," they replied.

The KLTV reporter seemed to be unaware that finding anomalies on Google Street View is a cherished Internet past-time. Other high strangeness captured by Street View cameras includes:

• Ghosts--several ghosts, in fact
• Randomly levitating children
• And to bring things full circle, the likely pilot of the Texas UFO, ET, the extraterrestrial.

Of course, Street View is also good at capturing scary slices of real life, as we recently discovered when the Google cameras captured the business end of a gun.

As for the UFO in Texas, chances are good it's an artifact of light refracting inside one of the many lenses inside the Street View car's Death Star-shaped camera.

Google announced the latest advancement in its quest for universal map domination today: Meet Street View Trekker. It's sort of like those Wifi-snarfing Street View cars, except with Trekker, all that photographic equipment fits in a handy backpack, which means the company can start putting the places you go to the escape the Internet  . . . on the Internet.

"You’ve seen our cars, trikes, snowmobiles and trolleys—but wheels only get you so far," the company wrote today. "There’s a whole wilderness out there that is only accessible by foot."

Has "Where we're going, we don't need roads," ever sounded so dystopian?
