If those Bitcoins are burning a hole in your electronic wallet, it might be time to cash out. So, we found something that’s totally worth it: a used, slightly damaged, red Mercedes Benz convertible for sale on Craigslist that’s accepting Bitcoin as payment.

And with the record values Bitcoins are trading at, what a deal she is!  Despite the fact that the 2002 CLK430 is missing a large chunk on its left side (it has a “super clean interior,” though) it could be yours for just $3,500. Convert that to Bitcoin’s current value of $215 per coin, and this fixer-upper rings in at just 16 BTC.

We called up Danny, a car salesman in Coney Island, to see what possessed him to accept Bitcoins. “It’s booming!” he exclaimed to Betabeat on the phone this morning. Not an active trader or buyer of Bitcoins, Danny said he learned about the digital currency trend by reading about it and figured why not.

“It’s worth the same as money, so who cares?,” he said, adding that this is the first time he’s offered something for sale using Bitcoins. When we told him about the great Bitcoin Bubble of 2013, he bristled and said it didn’t concern him.

Since the posting only went up last night, he said he hasn’t heard from anyone yet. Give it time, Danny: it’s a sellers market.

It can't be fun running a car company. A century ago automobiles were the hottest thing since the railroad, but nowadays you're considered a hopeless dinosaur loser--unless you're Elon Musk, in which case you get to blunder around starting beef with the New York Times.

Maybe that explains why Ford, your granddad's go-to pickup truck brand since 1948, is launching a car-sharing program. PC Mag reports that the company is launching Ford2Go, which'll allow drivers to rent cars from dealerships via an online booking system. It'll launch in Germany in late 2013.

Sometimes that test-drive with the salesman in the passenger seat just isn't enough to make a decision, you know?

According to PC Mag:

"Ford understands that for some of our customers, car sharing is an attractive option," Ford of Germany chairman Bernhard Mattes said in a statement. "As a company, we are committed to a collaborative and integrated approach to future mobility, and the Ford2Go service is another significant step in exploring exactly how that future could look."

Of course, Ford is far from the only car company trying to import some mojo from Startupland in the age of connected devices. Besides running its own New York City-based VC firm, Ford's sister company BMW already offers a similar program in San Francisco, with luxury electric cars. General Motors allows OnStar subscribers to rent out their cars via RelayRides. Don't even get us started on the advent of automobile-focused apps. Kids today and their Spotify playlists.

Though driverless cars are on the road (heh) to becoming legal in many states, it will definitely take some time for the American populace to adjust to the sight of a car functioning without someone in the driver's seat.

YouTube user MagicofRahat took advantage of that dissonance by creating a costume that looked just like his car's seat back and placed it over his body, giving the impression that his car was driving itself. Then he drove the car through a number of fast food drive-thrus and scared the crap out of the unsuspecting employees.

Our favorite is the girl who has the presence of mind to demand that her co-worker "Instagram that joint." Priorities!

A report from WNYC's New Tech City indicates that in addition to driving themselves, our cars may one day be able to have conversations, as well. New Tech City's Manoush Zomorodi questioned Transportation Nation's Alex Goldmark in the clip below and Mr. Goldmark said the future is in machines using Near-Field Communication (NFC) to communicate via shortwave.

Mr. Goldmark's description of life with machines chattering around us sounds great, on the surface:

We're going to be seeing a world where things talk to each other and make a lot of the decisions faster and quicker than we humans ever could. We're going to have cars that are speaking on these basically shortwave radio conversations with the stoplight saying "Hey, I'm coming up here." That's going to be talking to the train coming down the way and saying "Hold on." The car may even know how to break ahead of time.

Mr. Goldmark goes on to report that the city of Ann Arbor, MI has begun testing cars with NFC just to see how they handle daily urban traffic use.
