Can you hear me now? It's a cardinal rule of working outside the office that you absolutely must learn to use your inside voice. But it seems a few people in Silicon Valley haven't quite mastered that particular trick. "Stopped by a Starbucks on Sand Hill Road to use Wifi," Slate's Farhad Manjoo recently tweeted. "Surrounded by indiscreet start-up guys preparing for VC meetings." Remember guys: The walls have ears.

Boys on Girls CollegeHumor founder Ricky Van Veen has been known to drag his girlfriend, HBO star Allison Williams, around to tech events, but she’s not afraid to give him a taste of his own medicine. In Sunday night's episode of Girls, Mr. Van Veen had a cameo appearance which even earned him a credit at the end under "Also Starring."

Clad in a plaid shirt and jeans, Mr. Van Veen was present in the startup party scene for Charlie's new app, Forbid. "We hit 20,000 MAU, and then everyone was just like, 'Ohhh fuck we did it,'" Charlie says earlier in the episode when explaining why they're throwing the party. (MAUs are monthly active users, duh.)

When Marnie grabs the mic and decides to turn the party into her own private karaoke sesh, Mr. Van Veen can be seen rolling his eyes at his real life girlfriend. Inside jokes! He also has a short scene with Shoshanna, where he tells her, "Restaurants are like my passion. Just going out to things is who I am." We've never met Mr. Van Veen in real life, but his Girls character was definitely insufferable.

As far as the accuracy of the scene when compared to an actual startup party? We'd give it a 7/10. Needed more neckbeards.

Spamalot Looks like even New York Times editors aren't immune to the occasional Twitter hack. Earlier this week, Times public editor fell pray to a little vanity when she clicked a spam link, which caused her profile to tweet out the same link:

Ms. Sullivan seemed to take it all in stride. "Now I know I've had the complete Twitter experience, with account briefly hacked," she tweeted shortly after. "Thanks to all for help and sorry for the unintended spam!"

Lucky for Lena Dunham that her Brooklyn-based take on entitlement coincides with the rise of New York's nouveau tech riches. We already saw boho babe Jessa slum it with a square venture capitalist. (Factcheck on his "Steal My Sunshine" mash-up, though: In real life, VCs are much more partial to posting indie rock or dad rock on their Tumblr. And we're sorry to report you probably picked the same song of the year.)

But yesterday, the voice (of a certain hue) of her generation went ahead and did the damn thing. In a walk through Washington Square Park, Shoshana reveals that Marnie's ex-boyfriend Charlie built an app called Forbid.

"He sold it to, like, a very esteemed business tycoon for, like, a very large sum of money and now he has a corner office in said tycoon's building with, like, 11 employees," she says. "Charlie has a company?" Marnie whimpers, mentally filling her walk-in closet with plastic dresses.

"He's basically become a bougie nightmare," older-and-wiser Ray explains.

Knowing Ms. Dunham's penchant for borrowing from her actresses' real lives in a way that hits "a little close to home," it's hard not to see the parallel with the relationship between Allison Williams, who plays Marnie, and her boyfriend, CollegeHumor and Notional founder Ricky Van Veen. It may be a mystery to Gawker, but the two have been dating for awhile now. They were recently spotted on a double-date to the Grammy's with his pal John Mayer and American firework Katy Perry.

According to our logic, that makes IAC chairman Barry Diller the source material for "said business tycoon." Last May, we spotted Ms. Williams on the mogul's arm at a startup party in the lobby of IAC's Frank Gehry building. Both CollegeHumor and Notional are part of IAC's portfolio.

So what overheard Silicon Alley tidbits might Ms. Dunham have pilfered to incorporate into the episode?

Well, Forbid, which blocks users from making calls they know they shouldn't was apparently inspired by Charlie's breakup with Marnie. (The app version of *refresh refresh refresh*?) If users give in to drunken urges, customers have to pony up $10 to unblock the number. "People are really responding to software that protects them from themselves or other people," is Charlie's elevator pitch to Marns. "So the app is free, but breaking your word to yourself isn't." Monetizable behavior modification? Give this kid a $250k seed round!

The wood paneling in the fictional Chelsea lobby looked more Upper East Side salon to us, but upstairs it's all iMacs and Aeron chairs, as custom dictates.

Charlie's still trying to maintain his Bushwick roots. He brushes off an offer to hear the new Jack Johnson--good luck with that, buddy--and hasn't gone soft on the free candy perks just yet. He's also predictably vague about the size of his acquisition. "They paid me a shitload," he jokes before downgrading it to "not that much, but enough." Enough for an unlofted bed and a boatload of headbands, we premuse.

But what's that in the distance? The blare of an air horn as a coworking-space's-worth of 20-somethings dance their way through the open floor plan to the sounds of "Teach How to Dougie." Sorry, Marns. Charlie doesn't have time for your sadface because "the office next door doing a lip-dub thing for their YouTube channel." Although we appreciate the fameball-era callback, lipdubs are so 2009. Bonus points for predicting our long national Harlem Shake nightmare, though.

Later, slumped over in her "magician's assistant" outfit, Marnie has an epiphany. "You know who end up living their dreams are sad messes like Charlie?!" Uh-oh, sounds Lena Dunham just called ya'll not awesome.

A surprisingly diverse crowd showed up at The Gramercy Theater last night for the annual CollegeHumor Offline show. The audience was almost half female and included numerous fans significantly older than the site's namesake demographic.

The content, however, was exactly what you’d expect if you’ve ever perused CollegeHumor for some sophomoric fun. The show featured a familiar crew—Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld of the site’s most popular series, Jake & Amir, Elaine Carroll of Very Mary-Kate—delivering familiar punch lines, most to the effect of, “I put my dick in your Sprite.” CollegeHumor’s editor in chief Streeter Seidell opened the show with a few jokes about peeing himself and disliking farmer’s markets before assuring the audience that there were a lot more “cumming jokes” to look forward to. In that respect, the performers did not disappoint.

The highlight of the show was HBO’s "Girls" star Allison Williams, who, in a floral cocktail dress and stilettos looked indistinguishable from Marni, her prim-and-proper character on the show. Ms. Williams, of course, has reportedly been dating CollegeHumor and Notional founder Ricky Van Veen for some time now. A CollegeHumor representative declined to comment. However, the two are often spotted together at parties and recently appeared hand-in-hand in a video shot at Jakob Lodwick's wedding.

“Tell me about your show because there’s a lot of sex and I don’t know if it’s simulated,” Gale Beggy, the CollegeHumor personality played by Josh Ruben in drag, asked.

“Gale, all of the sex is simulated,” Ms. Williams responded with good-natured exasperation. “It’s not a porn.”

Despite Ms. Williams’s background in improv (“All of my experience before Girls was live,” she told Betabeat after the show) the majority of her jokes fell painfully flat. When asked about her own beauty procedures, Ms. Williams first responded “This isn’t my face…I just got it,” before telling the audience that she uses “a lot of blood, a lot of cat urine,” and “your saliva, actually” to keep herself looking fresh.

Her exaggerated attempts at physical comedy—putting a hand on Mr. Ruben’s knee and constantly pushing up his stuffed chest—didn't do her many favors, although the audience didn’t seem to mind. As Ms. Williams exited the stage, a voice from the crowd shouted, “nice legs."

The show concluded with Jake & Amir, who gave the audience a list of ten first date ideas (three of which involved proposing marriage and one which involved a trip to Napa Valley) and ended with a freestyle rap about aardvark cum, featuring Hoodie Allen and a fully suited aardvark.

After the show, we spoke to Mr. Seidell, who, currently 29, has been married for almost a year. He laughed when we asked if he ever feels like he is outgrowing his audience. “It’s the Internet, so its hard to tell exactly how old they are, since everybody acts like they’re 13,” he said. “We always joke like, 'Oh, do you get fired when you’re 30?' And the first of us just turned 30, so we’ll find out I guess.”

When asked about the funniest thing he’s seen on the Internet lately, Mr. Seidell had to think. “I literally see thousands of funny things online each day,” he explained, adding, “I don’t want to give a bad answer.”

He proceeded to recount a video featuring an Olympic gymnast perfectly landing a vaulting pass where in the background you can see the judge’s jaw drop, before conceding, “That’s not really that funny, I guess. Honestly, the thing I probably laughed the hardest at was a gif of a cat falling off a counter, so that would be, sadly, what I think is the funniest.”

We turned the question around to Ms. Williams, who barely hesitated. “I like any video of a person who just had dental surgery,” she offered enthusiastically. “And I’ve watched a lot of them lately.”
