Charities Are Refusing Reddit Donations Inspired By Jennifer Lawrence’s Nude Photos

It's not every day that rejecting donations — not raising them — is for a good cause.
Thanks but no thanks.

Thanks but no thanks.

The Reddit masturbaters turned do-gooders had only the best of intentions when they fapped for charity, but the Prostate Cancer Foundation didn’t see it that way.

The cancer charity rejected donations brought in by a post on R/TheFappening that encouraged users to donate in the name of Jennifer Lawrence’s nude photos.

“Let’s make this a worthwhile endeavour,” the post reads.  “Jennifer Lawrence has donated to help cure prostate cancer, the least we can do is follow suit for helping us maintain our long-term health by donating. Be the hero TheFappening deserves! (pcf.org).”

We get that they’re trying to express their appreciation for 1) naked Jennifer Lawrence and 2) the fact that their internet home is just about the only site that hasn’t banned the celebrity nudes, but someone should have told them that charity and sleaze don’t mix.

We would have even preferred an ice bucket challenge knock-off.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation agreed the fundraiser screams “exploitation,” leading them to refuse the donations, pull the donation page and issue the following statement:

A post appeared on Reddit late Monday afternoon, September 1, 2014. A Reddit user directed other Reddit users to make a donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation without the Foundation’s knowledge. We would never condone raising funds for cancer research in this manner. Out of respect for everyone involved and in keeping with our own standards, we are returning all donations that resulted from this post.

The Redditors realized this makes them “literally worse than cancer” and decided to take their money elsewhere, specifically Water.org.

“Water is a fundamental human need and right and, since we all seem to be thirsty motherfuckers, it seems like the place to go,” reads the new post on the initiative. To no surprise, the water fundraiser was soon pulled too.

We didn’t think it was possible, but the scummiest subreddit just got scummier.
