With the prospect of driverless cars roaming the streets nearing, nobody is more scared than the FBI. Per an internal document obtained by the Guardian, the agency is worried about the security and safety issues the autonomous cars could bring.

The report lays out several nightmare scenarios including one that floats the idea if “suspects shooting at pursuers from getaway cars that are driving themselves,” then it could be a “game changing” proposition to high-speed car chases. Just think: A suspect on the loose with their hands freed to shoot everyone in sight while the car barrels down the highway. Yikes!

The report continues:

“Autonomy … will make mobility more efficient, but will also open up greater possibilities for dual-use applications and ways for a car to be more of a potential lethal weapon that it is today.”

With Google leading the way of autonomous car making, that sort of sounds like a direct shot. For its part, the company says the vehicles “operate safely” and will be “very basic” in terms of the commands they follow.
