Everyone bow down and kiss Mark Zuckerberg’s Keds because there’s further proof that it’s America’s world and we’re just living in it. The Facebook CEO and cofounder was the most generous philanthropist in 2013 with his one time donation of $970 million to a nonprofit in Silicon Valley last December.

That huge chunk of cash, which equaled about 18 million Facebook shares, earned him the top slot on the Chronicle of Philanthropy‘s year-end list released today. The donation was made to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, an organization that disperses money to other nonprofits in the health, education and environmental sects.

Zuck and his wife Priscilla Chan’s contribution not only proves that your Facebook addiction could be spun to be that an altruistic act, but it shows that the economy is improving. Stacy Palmer, an editor at the Chronicle of Philanthropy, said that its top 50 contributors donated $7.7 billion last year.

“It’s a sure sign that the economy is getting better and people are getting a lot less cautious,” she said, adding that people were donating to organizations and colleges, rather than splashy buildings.

If you’re reading this Zuck, we could use a donation too.
