Marissa Mayer’s Dust Allergy Is Forcing Yahoo! to Sell Several Old Domains

Every penny helps.

Wearing some old jeans, a dust mask and an ill-fitting flannel, Marissa Mayer stumbled over some old domain names collecting dust in the Yahoo! attic. Faced with the decision whether to lug them to the Antiques Roadshow set or throw them on a table for a quick sale, she went with the latter.

In a blog post today, Yahoo! announced it could really use some money so it’s throwing a domain yard market sale. Starting tomorrow, there will be a week-long auction of over a hundred slightly used, but “premium” domain names. Prices range from $1,000 to as high as $1,500,000.

Scrolling through the list, we found that sandwich.com is up grabs, as is jockeys.com (underwear fetish?) and cyberjokes.com, which could be used as a portal for all those Yahoo! jokes stirring in your brain.

And, if you take ownership of them, don’t disappoint Yahoo! It writes:

Surely, creative people, businesses and entrepreneurs could come up with something great to do with them. They could even spark some brand new ideas or companies.

It was either this or forcing employees to participate in Market Day.
