Teen Beat

Explicit Pictures Sent on Snapchat Are Causing Teens to Beat the Crap Out of Each Other

The future doesn't look bright for Western civilization.

If Snapchat is trying to downplay the stigma that it’s purely used by raucous teens for sexting, then this is certainly not going to help. A North Dakota newspaper reports that a 15-year-old boy was beaten with a baseball bat by another boy of the same age after he discovered that his 13-year-old sister was the recipient of explicit snaps.

According to court documents, the 15-year-old boy was very peeved that his sister was the recipient of a picture of the boy’s genitals. (Due to the case involving minors, the names weren’t released.) So, he arranged a meeting at, where else, a Kum & Go gas station via Snapchat to “talk” about the situation. The brother and sister, along with three other boys, went to the gas station to meet with the explicit snapper.

The talk apparently escalated quickly because the boy who sent the snaps had “a significant amount” of blood streaming down his face and dried blood around his nose and eyes. The sister told the police that the boy fought back and kicked her brother multiple times until he fell down.

The snapper told police that the snaps between him and the 13-year-old girl were consensual since they’ve been exchanging nudes. However, the girl denied sending any graphic pictures. Cases involving juveniles aren’t fully released to the public so it’s unclear what kind of charges — if any — resulted.

Sure seems like a middle school class on Snapchat etiquette is going to come sooner or later.
