If you were racking your brain wondering if Katy Perry litters her text messages with emojis, then you can stop now. Yesterday, in the video for her new single, “Roar,” she confirmed that she’s basically a teen, using WhatsApp to substitute (when applicable) emojis for words. (Spoiler: there were a lot of cat emojis.)
The three-minute video provides plentiful evidence proving how much of a phone-adoring teen she is. For starters, it doesn’t matter where she is—toilet, elliptical, etc.—she can’t put down her white iPhone or close out of WhatsApp. It makes the KatyCat in us wonder: Is this some sort of sly product placement by the app?
Turns out, Ms. Perry is just a fan of WhatsApp. An app’s spokesperson told Forbes that no money was exchanged between the company and the singer. According to folklore, it’s believed that she’s simply a big fan of the texting app and uses it to communicate with her Team Katy.
A music video that will conceivably show her face is expected to debut soon. We’re thinking that will take place on Glide.
