You Can Eat This iPhone Case But Then You Won’t Have an iPhone Case

Looks delicious.
Mmmmmmmm phone case

The one thing still lacking in the American iPhone case market? Edibility.

Luckily, Japan’s got you covered. For $64 you can buy the “Survival Senbei Rice Cracker iPhone 5 Case,” which is shaped like an ordinary iPhone case, but handmade of brown rice and salt by someone suspiciously named “‘Mariko'” (quotation marks included).

Think you’re interested? Here’s the full product description on Japan Trend Shop:

The Senbei Rice Cracker iPhone 5 Cover is literally part food, part phone case… and great in an emergency when you are desperate for a snack!

If you want a case that will provide 100% protection, don’t get this one. It’s literally made of rice so probably will break if dropped. However, then you can always eat it! A tongue-in-cheek design that shows the Japanese obsession with both tech and cuisine, we just love this

As you might expect from an iPhone case that looks like a guinea pig’s teething toy, the Rice Cracker iPhone 5 Case is not without its flaws. The description specifies that customers should allow a month for delivery time (but what if we get hungry before then?), and adds, “Please be aware that due to its delicate nature, this case may become broken in the delivery or dispatch process.”

Guess that’s the price of high fashion.
