The records that The Journal-News referenced are a matter of public record in New York State, and the paper obtained the names and addresses of permit-holders by simple act of Freedom of Information Act. Nonetheless, and unsurprisingly, the interactive map sparked outrage far and wide, and also near to hand: specifically, on a blog operated by lawyer turned Greenwich, Conn., real estate agent Christoper Fountain.

Since The Journal-News published its interactive map, Mr. Fountain, who typically blogs about local real estate deals with occasional forays into politics, has been publishing a list of home addresses, phone numbers and various other bits of personal information about Journal-News staff—including info on the paper's publisher, its editor in chief, and the reporter and designer responsible for the offending story, as well as a laundry list of other staff, right down to the guy responsible for "comics, crosswords, Jumble, Sudoku, movie clock."

Neither Mr. Fountain, nor Journal-News editor in chief CynDee Royle responded to an email seeking comment.
