Some users are unable to access Gmail this morning. Google's Apps Status Dashboard confirms that the mail service is experiencing some "service disruption"—once around 3 a.m., which was resolved in two minutes, and again starting at 11 a.m. today. "We're experiencing an issue affecting less than 1.38% of the Google Mail user base," Google says. "The affected users are unable to access Google Mail." The company promises an update by 12:31 p.m. (estimated) with an explanation and timetable for when it will be able to resolve the problem.

As Google has said Gmail has more than 350 million users, that means 4,830,000 people are potentially affected. Those users popped up a Google error 152, which means there are too many muxwaiters, or something.

Last week, Gmail was down for more than an hour but "less than .11 percent" of users were affected, including this reporter.

Anyway, Gmail is down, which explains why your Twitter feed was so hoppin' this morning.

UPDATE: 12:40 p.m. Gmail is back up. "We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better," said Google.
