Sometimes we feel like Facebook’s mobile strat is currently: FIRE EVERYTHING.

Perhaps in a move to boost its market value–or at least eclipse the fact that its IPO was basically a disaster–Facebook has released a new app for iPhone and iPad that focuses entirely on photo sharing. Appropriately deemed “Facebook Camera,” the app’s user interface bears a significant resemblance to Instagram, the popular photo sharing app that Facebook acquired last month for a cool $1 billion.

According to a blog post published to Facebook’s newsroom page, Facebook Camera  includes editing capabilities–such as cropping and rotating, as well as 15 photo filters aimed at giving your pics the atmospheric look that Instagram does so well. You can also upload multiple photos at once, a functionality that Instagram doesn’t currently offer. Plus, AllThingsD says it’s super fast, which is more than you can say for the regular Facebook mobile app.

Since the acquisition of Instagram has yet to officially go through, Facebook developed this product without the help of the Instagram team. And according to TechCrunch, Facebook’s spokespeople are sticking to the party line, telling them, “As Mark asserted, we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently, so I anticipate some healthy competition.”

Owning two competing services doesn’t exactly seem like an ideal strategy, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the company eventually went back on its word and integrated Instagram into Facebook Camera. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
