Well, this morning comes a little sweet, sweet vindication, because Al Gore is now a member of the Internet Hall of Fame, which apparently is something that exists. He's listed as a "global connector," or someone who supported the network's growth. Take that, Rush Limbaugh! 

The organization does honor some unquestionably important individuals, like Paul Baran, Vint Cerf, and Tim Berners-Lee, who laid the groundwork for the industry-disrupting, meme-generating beast that we now know and love and (sometimes) loathe. But there's also something bizarro about creating such an old-fashioned institution for something that tends to undermine would-be gatekeepers at every turn.

Besides, when will society recognize something of real importance, namely the imminent dangers posed by the greatest threat of our time: manbearpig?
