Do you love or hate this movie? (onegoodmovie.com)

A tipster sent us the link to One Good Movie, a very basic recommendation service from the team at Betaworks. “Each day, we recommend one good movie to watch in a short and sweet email,” the site says. “Our pitches are fun. They’re relevant. And, the more you tell us what you like and hate, the better we get at helping you find a good movie to watch.”

One Good Movie rates each recommendation on a scale from “guilty pleasure” to “openly recommend,” recognizing a certain phenomenon exacerbated by Netflix that causes otherwise cool people to become secret fans of “Glee.”

Yesterday’s recommendation, “Do the Right Thing,” is very New York. It is tagged “,.” The movie descriptions are just two short paragraphs. We’ve seen the service direct users to Amazon or Hulu, so we’re betting it will be restricted to movies you can buy on demand or stream immediately.

Betaworks’ Patrick Butler said One Good Movie is an experiment that is part of a larger recommendation service, parts of which will roll out in the coming weeks. He declined to elaborate, saying though the site is public, they’re not actively trying to drive traffic to it. The site is basically operational, although the “archives” section isn’t working yet.
