Betabeat broke the news no less than six weeks ago: Foursquare is moving to Soho. And today, The Wall Street Journal confirms the deal is done. "The company, which makes a smartphone application that lets users 'check in' at bars, restaurants and other locations, will sublease the space from Scholastic Corp. for just under 10 years," the paper reports.

Foursquare has had to try working in the kitchen and eating area in its overstuffed office at 36 Cooper Square, operations manager Derek Stewart told the WSJ. No longer!

The company will settle into the top two floors of 568 Broadway, beating out fellow startups Tumblr and ZocDoc, which were both interested in the space. Startups seem to love Soho (see Thrillist, ZocDoc, Huffington Post, Kickstarter, Canv.as, we could go on). But office space for fast-growing startups is getting scarce for companies with more than 50 employees.

Foursquare's lease is for about 10 years, indicating the New York startup will stick around the East Coast despite having opened a San Francisco office.
