At the press conference on Monday announcing the winner of the $100 million grant, Cornell President David Skorton debuted a video flyover of the campus and Curbed has the 30 second spot.

Those glittering solar arrays kind of make the boroughs to its left and right look dull by comparison, no?

Check out this week’s Betabeat feature, a campus confidential on how Cornell beat Stanford to build a 2 million sq. ft. engineering mecca on Roosevelt Island.

  1. I don’t think they will delete that old hospital building at the southern tip … would they? It has to be a landmark

    1. Nitasha Tiku says:

They are razing Goldwater Hospital, which is in the footprint of the Cornell-Technion campus, but plans to close that hospital were already underway. But perhaps you’re referring to the Smallpox Hospital/Renwick Ruin?

      1. yes, definitely referring to the SmallPox Hospital .. my favorite part of any drive down the FDR

      2. Nitasha Tiku says:

I just scanned through the RFP, which only mentions the Goldwater site, and never the Renwick Ruins/Smallpox Hospital by name. The one page illustration that shows the area the campus will cover does not appear to include that, it just say “Future Site of Southpoint Park.”

      3. Thanks Nitasha. Fingers crossed then I guess ;)

  2. Robert Moses says:

So will the buildings float?  The Hudson is predicted to rise 5 inches by the end of the decade after all….and 55 inches by the end of the century.  I hope they provide life preservers

    1. Nitasha Tiku says:

Robert Moses! You live! There was some rumble about that earlier, but nothing about it in the RFP. I’ll check with the EDC.
