At the GigaOM RoadMap conference in San Francisco yesterday, Twitter and Square co-founder Jack Dorsey shared some very high-minded thoughts about possibility that technology could bring us closer together.

“I firmly believe that the more understanding we embrace… with technology, we have more empathy,” Mr. Dorsey told Om Malik on stage. Dousing yourself in the firehose of personal detail from your Twitter stream, he reasoned, was one way of enhancing our collective humanity. “We can minimize conflict because you have an understanding of where people are coming from,” he said.

Considering we just got 37 million results for a Google search for “best Twitter feuds of all time,” Mr. Dorsey might be accused of some optimistic thinking.

Of course, it’s not really Twitter’s fault. We’d argue that a real-time network like Twitter do expose the world to more humanity–in all its petty, jealous, stubborn, reactionary, self-promotional, and ego-centric glory.

Just joshing with you, Mr. Dorsey. We love your service. Only please stop having outages like yesterday’s. It obviously makes us cranky #onlyhuman.
