A romantic comedy about someone who manipulates social media to find a date was inevitable. And thanks to Will Ferrell, it’s arrived.
The Hollywood Reporter just announced that Ferrell’s company will be producing He’s Fucking Perfect by Lauryn Kahn with Fox 2000; the script was only out to studios for one day before it was purchased for a deal somewhere ” in the $1 million range”:
He’s F***ing Perfect is the story of one woman, pessimistic in love, who regularly uses the Internet to research the men her friends are dating, acting as a vetting device for them to weed out losers. Things take a turn when she gets a friend to dump her new guy in order for the woman to steal the man for herself, using her social media savvy to turn herself into his perfect match
So basically, it’s Catfish meets You’ve Got Mail with less New York Observer reporters played by Greg Kinnear, mercifully.
Also nice to know: Kahn was the assistant of Ferrell’s creative partner Adam McKay for a number of years before finally getting her big break. So it can happen to you too, aspiring screenwriters with hack assistant jobs that have made your already preternatural disposition to depression metastasize because you’ve realized your career is dead in the water! There’s light! At the end of the tunnel! But you should probably stop spending your days on Facebook if you want to make it. Or not, as the case has is here.
Life is complicated.
