Foursquare rewards its users for getting up from their computers, getting out of their comfort zones, and travelling far and wide to adventures in new places. Now a hack called 4sqTransit lets users log in with their Foursquare accounts and receive a text message with the local mass transit schedule when they check in to a location.
The service, developed by a Microsoft intern named Matt McCormick , currently offers access to the schedules from more than a hundred different mass transit agencies, although its not clear if it operates outside the United States. It’s another example of how Fourquare is, through a army of independent developers, increasingly serving as the default location layer for more than 10,000 different services.
