Distilled, a London based digital marketing agency specializing in the dark arts of Search Engine Optimization, is going to open a new office in New York. Tom Critchlow, head of search marketing, will run the office, and should feel right at home with neighbors like HuffPo and “The AOL Way”.
SEO is a tricky world, all the more so these days with Google ramping up its efforts to keep the dreck produced by content farms and spam sites out of its top results. “There’s more where this came from, brace yourself,” Critchlow wrote in his recent analysis of Google’s recent Panda Farmer update.
Distilled counts big New York companies like Etsy among its clients, as well as tech titans like Microsoft, and is looking to hire SEO consultants and sales execs for the Alley office. “The London tech scene is fun but still feels small where you might kind of know everyone. I think the NY tech scene is quite a lot further ahead to be honest,” admits Critchow, who is looking forward to taking in a few Knicks games and some live jazz.
“We often end up working on “hard” problems that other SEO companies might not, for example helping out with sites affected by the Panda update, or sites penalized by Google,” says Critchlow. “To be clear they come to us already penalized!” That’s right, only white hats here.
